THINGS TO DO THIS MONTH
Outdoor: Place trees in a maximum sunlight location. As the weather warms the trees will need to be watered more frequently, often daily. Be sure to provide enough water at each watering to thoroughly saturate the soil. Fertilize regularly to keep the trees growing and to support the new growth. Remove new growth as needed to increase the fullness of the foliage pads. Wire as needed but be careful when working around the soft new growth as it is easily damaged. Keep watching for insects or disease symptoms.
If you suspect that there is a problem but you do not know what it is, take a sample to a local nursery to have it identified. Treat insects and diseases appropriately. Remember that a fertilizer or fungicide will not cure an insect problem nor will an insecticide cure a disease. Repotting should be finished by now but you can still repot junipers.
Indoor: Once the night temperatures are above fifty degrees you may move these trees outdoors. Place them in a shaded location for about a week before moving them into the sun. Water as needed.
These trees may also need daily watering at this time, particularly if they are moved outdoors. Fertilize on a regular basis. Wire as needed but be cautious around new growth. Remove new growth to promote fullness in the foliage pads. Do not repot these trees for about another month.
