Things to do April 2021

THINGS TO DO THIS MONTH Outdoor: This is it, the busiest month in Bonsai. Once the danger of temperatures in the low twenties or less seems to have passed, it is time to bring your trees out of winter protection and into their summer homes. If anything needs to be done (or set up) for this, it should be done very soon. For trees in mulch beds, be sure that the mulch has thawed to below the pots before lifting the trees out of it. Do not force trees…

April 2021 Message from the President

President’s Message for April 2021 Our next Zoom meeting will be Wednesday, April 7th, at 7 PM. Our very own world touring, international bonsai artist, Jennifer Price will present her comparison of European versus American bonsai styles. Our last meeting, with Bjorn Bjorholm, was a great success.  We will be putting the video up in the member's section of our website as soon as Bjorn gets it to us.  Also, as I wrote last month: “However, due to the nature of that meeting, there will be no club business…

Thread GraftingBy: Jim Beck—March 2021I have had this Ficus for some time. Recently a key branch died. I have decided to replace it with a length of another branch using a process known as thread grafting. I will thread the donor branch though a hole in the truck and as the branch grows its cambium will grow into and fuse with the cambium of the trunk. Here are pictures showing where the dead branch had been and the proposed new branch. Interview with Jennifer Price

By: Charlotte Field—February 2021 From a professional ballerina to a respected Bonsai Pro, Jennifer Price totally enjoys her life’s journey. As she shares her thoughts, I found her to be an honest, devoted, sincere person totally at ease with life, herself and The Art of Bonsai. Over 11 years ago she saw her first bonsai and she bought it. She didn’t have a real connection with it, just thought it was a pretty tree. I asked her if she still had it, and like most of us she said…
