Dear PSBS Members,
I hope this letter finds you well and still basking in the camaraderie and knowledge shared at our recent General Meeting and Repotting Workshop. It was truly heartening to witness the collaboration and dedication among our members, especially in the nurturing and care of our beloved bonsai trees.
I extend my sincere gratitude to Larry Magee for his insightful demonstration on repotting techniques, and to all those who participated in the workshop. Special thanks are also due to Linda Camp, Jim Beck, Phil Malhoit, and Larry Magee for their invaluable contributions and support in ensuring the success of the event.
Transition within our Board Officers is progressing smoothly, thanks to the efforts of Doug Bradbury and Craig Cronquist. Doug has implemented some positive changes in the Treasurer’s responsibilities, while Craig is diligently preparing for our upcoming special events, including the Picnic at Cantigny in June 2024 and the Destination Asia Show at Morton Arboretum in August 2024.
Your hard work, passion, and unwavering commitment to the art of bonsai are truly commendable. Together, we continue to promote and preserve this remarkable art form, inspiring others along the way.
As we look ahead, I would like to remind you that our May General Meeting will take place on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, May 15, 2024, instead of the customary 1st Wednesday. This meeting will feature Mauro Stemberger from Italy as our guest artist. In anticipation of a larger attendance, including members from our sister club, Midwest Bonsai Society, we have reserved a lecture hall HSC1234 in the Health & Science Center at the southeast corner of Lambert Road and Tallgrass Road. Please refer to this month’s Bonsai Hai and emails for a map and directions.
We are eagerly anticipating a fantastic meeting with Mauro and the opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts from the Midwest Bonsai Society. Your presence and participation are highly valued, and we hope to see you all there!
Lastly, I would like to express our gratitude to Phil Malhiot for his efforts in rescuing late Arlene Knapp’s trees, tools, pots, and accessories. Despite the unfortunate loss of some trees, Phil’s dedication has salvaged many, which will now find a new home within our club. Arlene’s son has generously donated all her belongings to PSBS, and Phil has organized a sale at his house on April 19-20, 2024, with proceeds benefiting our club. Any remaining items will be raffled during upcoming general meetings.
Thank you all for your continued support and involvement. Let’s keep nurturing our passion for bonsai and sharing it with the world.
Best Regards,
Badar Zulqarni
