Substitute President’s Message

Substitute President’s message

Due to a string of coincidences, It is my honor to be writing this month’s President’s Message. I hope that you all enjoyed Rodney Clements’s presentation. I have seen him in action a few times, and I have always enjoyed it. He is very entertaining, and he gives you a lot of things to consider in designing your trees.

September is going to be a very busy month. We are having the garden walk again this year. Last year’s walk was very successful. Just seeing how others deal with the display and care of their trees, the quality of the trees and the chance to talk with other club members about bonsai was great. This year the event will be held on September 12th and 19th. See the details under special events. I am looking forward to visiting a few places that I did not get to last year.

On September 25th, the Morton Arboretum will be hosting a 1-day Asian Festival, and the club will be present to display trees and talk to visitors about bonsai and the club. It would be a great opportunity for you to volunteer an hour or two manning the table and talking about bonsai with fellow enthusiasts.

Technically not in September, but October 6th will be our first “in-person” meeting. It will be great to see friendly faces and to catch up on events of the past year. The topic of the meeting is a Juniper workshop. There will be 16 junipers available for a modest price and more experienced members with help those that would like some help. Bring your tools; the club will provide wire. Some of these trees are valued at $150, so they are a bargain.
