Our annual Picnic at Cantigny

LOOKING BACK ON OUR PICNIC
We held our annual picnic on August 1st and what a grand day it was. I was contemplating not going because of the Delta Covid thing but what a mistake that would have been.  Because I said I was going to set up an information table I figured I should go. So off I went. The weather was perfect, in the 70’s, light breeze and almost no humidity, just perfect. Cantigny couldn’t have treated us better, they were the perfect host and the only thing they asked of us was to have some kind of display or presentation for the public, and that we did in spades. They gave us the Picnic Pavilion which was huge and had many, many picnic tables all spaced for obvious reasons. They also gave us ( free ) lots of tables for us to put our trees or whatever on. Upon entering I told them I was with Prairie State and nice surprise, NO parking fee. Unloading was great, right in front of where we set up, close to parking and members were already there with quite a number of trees for the public to see. Phil did a great presentation and by the time we held a raffle ( which we did quite well on by the way ), there were many spectators present. Cantigny officials were there taking photos and were so pleased with what we were doing that they asked us back next year and even stayed for Phil’s presentation too. I had a brilliant time as I think everyone who attended or observed did. The only thing that could have been better was if the latrine was closer but I guess you can’t have everything… See you all next year and that is a promise!!
